Governance Policy

The Board of Directors works in partnership with the Preschool Authorised Supervisor/Manager to operate the centre based ‘Wingham Preschool’ service and the ‘Flying Fox Mobile Preschool’ service. As part of your child’s enrolment, a parent becomes a member of ‘Wingham District Preschool Kindergarten’ and are welcome to join the ‘Board of Directors’ at the annual general meeting in March. Attending board meetings is a way to be actively involved in the Preschool’s management and planning.

Parental Interaction and Involvement in the Service Policy

Educators welcome you to be a part of your child’s learning and development. You are welcome to share with educators any ideas or ask for information about how you can be involved in the preschool service. Newsletters include events and suggestions of how you can be involved with the preschool service. If you have a skill you would like to share with us e.g. sewing, pottery, playing an instrument, cooking, teaching us another language, please discuss this with educators. Any way you are involved is welcome and appreciated.

Medication

Medication will only be given to your child at Preschool if:

  • the relevant details are given on the medication form and the form is signed
  • the medication is given to a staff member, please do not leave medication in your child’s bag
  • the medication is clearly identified with a doctor’s label with your child’s name, dosage, expiry date etc.

Immunisation and Disease Prevention Policy & Infectious Disease Policy

To enrol any child in a New South Wales childcare service, it is required by law that all children must provide a copy of their immunisation status with their enrolment forms, prior to commencing preschool. Health and hygiene procedures included in the daily routine by children and educators, are to ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone. If you suspect your child of having an infectious disease or early symptoms of illness, your child should be kept at home until you have the symptoms checked out by your local doctor, thereby protecting your child and other children in the Preschool from unnecessary exposure to illness. A Summary of communicable/infectious diseases requiring exclusion from the Preschool, is included below: Conjunctivitis – until discharge has cleared from eyes Diarrhoea – If symptoms persist after 24 hours see your doctor Chicken pox – 7 days after spots appear and no new spots Measles – At least 5 days from appearance of rash Rubella – At least 5 days from appearance of rash Mumps – At least 10 days after swelling appears Head lice – Until treated and head is free of nits Impetigo – no exclusion if being treated and covered. Uncovered, excluded until sores are treated. Ringworm – Until treatment has begun and a medical certificate is produced indicating so Whooping cough – for at least 3 weeks and until a medical certificate is produced.

Signs and symptoms of illness to be alert for:

A high temperature or fever above 38°C, a severe cold, the child seems sick without obvious symptoms e.g. unusually tired, pale, irritable or lethargic, vomiting or loose bowel motions, rashes – any irritation you cannot identify, red, swollen or discharging eyes. The director may request that any child who is unwell be taken home, especially if they have symptoms of an infectious illness. Parents will be contacted if their child falls ill while at Preschool. If the parent cannot be contacted someone on your emergency contact list (on your enrolment form) will be contacted.
